For the monthly Young Men and Young Women activity, we held an Iron Chef competition. They were divided into three groups of 4 or 5 and were given the task to create meals using the theme ingredients of onions and peppers. It was quite a lot of fun.

Fathers and Sons Camp
Submitted by jgreep on Tue, 2006-09-26 22:24.This past weekend, the boys and I joined the other men and boys of the ward for an evening in the woods (sort of). We went to Camp Gardner, just West of Calgary and stayed the night in the Cree Lodge.
We had a nice evening around a campfire. I told the story of Thomas Karen, one of my ancestors. They liked that. I should post it here as well (or have my daughter post it).
I made our traditional pancake breakfast. I've done breakfast at the camps for probably the past 5 years. I made the pancake batter a bit different. I used a combination of rye, oat, corn, and rice flours. It's a rich flavour and is very filling. I also put pieces of bacon in the middle while they're cooking.

Magrath Wind Farm
Submitted by jgreep on Sat, 2006-09-09 20:43. On our way to Impeesa, we stopped at Magrath to visit the wind farm. My brother-in-law, Brent, maintains them and got me on top to take a few shots of a spectacular view. It took us about 10 minutes to climb the ladder to the top.
The entire album can be viewed on my gallery.

Impeesa Advanced Training and Family Camp
Submitted by jgreep on Thu, 2006-09-07 19:11.I'm a Venturer advisor (scouter) for the 134 LDS Scout group. Venturers are part of Scouts Canada and is open to youth aged 14 to 18. The Chinook region of Scouts Canada offered an advanced training session at Camp Impeesa to scouters. I had only taken Woodbadge Basic and needed to extend myself to better serve the boys.
The camp ran from August 13th to the 19th at Camp Impeesa. Camp Impeesa is located on the shore of Beaver Mines Lake in the Crowsnest Pass area near Pincher Creek, Alberta. Impeesa means The Wolf that never sleeps.
Labour Day Long Weekend
Submitted by jgreep on Tue, 2006-09-05 14:48.I got an email from my sister about a prayer given by Rev. Joe Wright opening a Kansas legislative session. I looked up the details. It's true, but wasn't quoted accurately. The original prayer is better and more interesting.

The girls started school today. April wasn't feeling well yesterday. It might be just jitters. She's going to a new school this year and she lost her map, so she's worried about getting lost. Kristina's in her last year of Jr. High. The boys started school a couple of weeks ago, so they're already in the groove.
